They’re sitting on one of the diner tables next to each other, sides pressed together. Party’s legs are stretched out in front of him and crossed at the ankle. He’s leaning back, propping himself up with his hands behind his back, head tilted back to expose the long column of his neck smudged red. Gerard in contrast is hunched over, curled in on himself with his elbows resting on his knees and his head cupped in his hands. It’s quiet in the diner, but there are noises from outside drifting in. It sounds like fireworks. Gerard’s not convinced they are though.
They sit there in silence for a long while until Gerard clears his throat and says quietly, “do you celebrate New Year here?”
“We celebrate each day we get through alive dollface.”
Gerard falls quiet at that. It’s not something he knows how to respond to. The silence has taken on an uncomfortable edge now and Gerard can’t manage to stay still anymore. He can’t stop fidgeting, jumping at every sound from outside. He takes a deep breath before biting his nail, trying to force himself to calm. It doesn’t work, it never really does. Everything he wants right now isn’t here and it hurts because most of the time now, something of what he wants is here. Party is here. Right now though, that’s not the case.
Party hops up and grins, one of his big open mouthed ones with lots of teeth which petrify and thrill Gerard in equal measure. He leans down, presses a firm kiss to Gerard’s mouth, before pulling away. Gerard’s face falls slightly, even though he tries to hide it. Party smirks at him and steps back. “Congratulations on another day in the land of the living.”
Gerard can’t help but watch Party’s swaying hips as he walks away.
