Day 3

In your own space, talk about your creative process - from what inspires you to what motivates you to how you manage to break through blocks. Does your process change depending on the type of creating you're doing? Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.

Well. My main creative medium is podfic, but since I did some writing for yuletide I am also going to talk about that a bit and how the two differ. Podfic. Well. I read something and normally as I'm reading I'll just want to read it aloud. Or I'll hear it in my voice in my head. Then if I decide I definitely want to record it, I will check out the author's profile etc for some kind of transformative works statement. If they do, yay, I'll start recording! If they don't, I pause for a minute to make sure I really want to go through the stress of messaging a stranger to get to record it. Asking permission stresses me out. Once I hear back, then I'll record. I record on a headset mic and I tend not to be able to record more than half an hour at a time, so sometimes it takes multiple sessions to finish recording something. I always have a large glass of water with me and quite often a cup of tea as well. I have to edit out the sounds of me drinking tea and putting my mug back on the coaster quite often. I tend to take a break between recording and editing. When I edit there is a lot of me bitching about editing on twitter. And tweeting the funny things I end up saying by mistake. Yeah, lots of venting! And then once I finish editing I will maybe make coverart. But I only seem to do that sometimes? Mostly when I have an idea of what I want the art to look like beforehand. And then posting! Posting means posting to my dw, the amplificathon community and AO3.

Now, writing! Writing for me involves more people than podficcing. I am not naturally a writer. So! I normally ramble about what I want to write with someone over gchat or email. And then I start to try and write. I normally end up writing dialogue first, then going back and adding action and stuff like that. More flailing at other people over gchat. More writing. Rinse and repeat. And then I will send it to someone to beta read who will inevitably point out how screwed up my tenses are. I am Not Good At Tenses (tm). Editing and tweaking and rereading and then I post! Posting for fic tends to only mean to AO3.

Day 4

Comment to someone you haven't ever interacted with before or introduce yourself to someone you've interacted with and friend/follow them. Afterwards, leave a comment in this post with the equivalent of "I did it!"

It doesn't have to be anything complex - it can be feedback for a fanwork or discussing something you might have in common or even simply admiring their icon. The point is to reach out to someone you normally wouldn't and connect with them, even if it's only for the briefest moment.

I did this the other day! :D

Day 5

In your own space, talk about your fannish origin story. How did you come to fandom, why did you choose your fannish name, do you have more than one secret identity? Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.

Hmmm. Well, I first went looking for Tamora Pierce stuff. I read her Tortall books and I wanted to know everything about them and did some googling and ended up on I spend a while there - mainly reading, writing the odd thing. The main thing I remember about this period is I was 12 and you had to be 13 to sign up for an account and I couldn't bring myself to lie so I desperately waited until my 13th birthday to sign up. I spent a lot of time on roleplaying boards as well. Mainly Harry Potter based ones, but friends got me onto more real world based ones and some urban fantasy kind of ones. I went by Star during those days. I signed up for livejournal midway through 2009 but I'd been lurking around lj for a while before that. I then got dreamwidth and then twitter and then tumblr. I've been going by croissantkatie since I signed up for lj. Katie because that's my name, as for the croissant, well, a few people joked about my surname sounding like that when at secondary school. It sounds nothing like croissant. I also really like croissants. And this is my only fannish identity nowadays. I got into podfic as part of the first snowflake challenge! I'd thought for a while I might like to do it and that it was something I could do and I saw someone saying they would love to have something of theirs podficced. So I did. Best decision ever. This was during my gap year and I had been feeling very isolated but I found podfic fandom and made loads more fandom friends which was really good for me. So yeah. And I've been trundling along ever since.
