Dear Author,

I hope this Yuletide finds you safe and well. I hope you’re happy with your assignment and can maybe find something helpful here. I love all these fandoms and am super excited about the possibility of fic for any of them!

As per my sign up, my do not wants are suicide and self harm.

Now, some general things about stuff I like! I am a sucker for a happy ending - give me all the angst and drama along the way, but I prefer a happy (or at least vaguely positive) ending (there's a fandom exception to this for D20 - see below!). I love found families of all types and people finding their people and thriving with them. I like genfic and teamfic and porny fic, but mostly I love people having feelings (and people having feelings together). I love adventures and plot, but I also love introspection and stories where nothing happens other than thoughts and feelings. I also really like darker fic, so if you feel like going down that route, that is a-ok with me!

My tumblr can be found here and my pinboard can be found here if you feel like looking at either might help you.

Now, some fandom specifics!

Albert Campion - Margery Allingham
Requested Characters - Albert Campion

It is a truth universally acknowledged that I love murder mysteries, particularly period murder mysteries. I fell in love with the show after stumbling across one episode on tv, promptly bought the whole series on dvd and shortly after picked up a few of the books as well. I tend to prefer the earlier, more whimsical novels and how they poke loving fun at the genre, but I’ve also been tempted recently to read some of the more psychological thriller type ones (I have a copy of Tiger in the Smoke somewhere I keep meaning to read!). Which is to say, regardless of which way you go, I will be happy! I love Albert dearly, particularly how he hides his cleverness behind a bland face. I love Lugg and his brusqueness and his unspecified past and his loyalty to Campion and the slightly irreverent way he interacts with his master. I’ve also been thinking a lot recently about Campion’s family - hence why I nominated Lady Emily and Valentine. I shamefully haven’t read Fashion in Shrouds (although again, I think I do have a copy of it somewhere) so I haven’t actually met Val. But I find the idea of Campion’s mysterious background fascinating, and I think there’s potential for an interesting story where his past and present lives meet. We know most of his family doesn’t support him, but some of them do, what’s that like? Does Campion’s background and family ever cause complications? Or, conversely, help him unexpectedly? If you want to hew close to canon or go completely wild with an AU, I am totally down with either! I think one of the key things for me about this fandom is the characters and how they interact with each other. I specifically requested Albert but any and all other characters are welcome as well!

The Mrs Bradley Mysteries (TV)
Requested Characters - Adela Bradley, George Moody

As noted above, I love a murder mystery. I joke that one day the croissantkatie yuletide singularity will occur whereby I nominate only period murder mysteries (hasn’t happened yet, but I figure it’s only a matter of time!). Just like Campion, I happened to see an episode of this repeated on tv (Speedy Death) I believe, and watched the whole thing going "this is perfectly my thing." I adored Adela from the start. She is absolutely wonderful. And so, I immediately tracked down the rest of the episodes on dvd! And what with it only being 5 episodes, it didn't really take me that long to watch all of it. I love the way Adela approaches crimes and thinks about things so precisely and scientifically. I also love her forthrightness, cynicism, sense of humour and strong opinions. She is the kind of glamourous woman I long to be in the future (and yet will probably never be). She has some rather progressive views for the time and I think that could be something interesting to explore. Another thing I am really interested in is the relationship between Adela and George. Personally, I think there’s something going on between them - sexual, romantic or both. So if that’s something you’re into, I’d be thrilled by fic exploring that in some way (I am also down for explicit fic here but if that’s not your jam, no worries!). Regardless of their potential relationship, I love how Adela and George interact with each other. This is a fandom where I'm interested in the relationships between the characters and their histories, the things implied and left unsaid. I also just really love how comfortable George and Adela's relationship is? I get the strong impression that they know where they stand with each other. How did that happen? How does that play into their relationship now? I also have lots of thoughts about how Adela (and by extension George) navigate "society" and if Adela even really cares about such things, if that’s something you felt like exploring. What do other people think of them? If you're feeling shippy, these questions could look at Adela/George, and if you're not, they could focus more on Adela as a divorced woman of some standing negotiating solving crime. I think there's some interesting stuff about how she doesn't seem to care about a lot of those things, but how she still sort of conforms. If you want to go AU that’s cool - I think seeing how these characters would work in different settings has the potential to be really interesting. Or if you feel like sticking closer to canon with casefic or some kind of side story to one of her existing mysteries, that would also be cool.

Ghosts (TV 2019)
Requested Characters - Any

I thought I’d probably love this show even before it started airing because I am a big fan of the Horrible Histories TV series, but oh boy was I instantly charmed when I started watching. The show was my happy place last year and the new series is proving to be a little bit of light to look forward to every week. I love all these fools. I love Alison and how she seems to have found a way to deal with the ghosts. I love Mike and how he stills seems apprehensive about the ghosts. I love Alison and Mike’s relationship! I think they are wonderful together and love how they support each other even if they don’t always agree about everything. All the ghosts are wonderful. Lady Fanny is hilarious. Thomas is just the perfect character for Mat Baynton. Kitty is pure embodied sunshine. I love how Robin is so fucking clever. Ben Willbond as the Captain is the role he was born to play. I just want to give Pat a hug. Mary always makes me smile. Even Julian’s grown on me! I also have a particular soft spot for the Plague Ghosts because I do love medieval history. I think the thing I love most about it is the whole found family feeling to it. These oddballs have been flung together, and for the ghosts are stuck with each other for eternity. And then you add Alison and Mike into the mix! One thing I’ve really been enjoying about series 2 is that we’ve been getting more information about the ghosts’ pasts, their deaths, and their relationships with each other prior to Alison and Mike’s arrival. I also really enjoyed the whole unreliable narrator thing they had going on with Thomas’s death - possibly something to explore with one of the others! Alternatively, what other ways do the ghosts find to entertain themselves? How do they react as they encounter more new forms of technology? And do Kitty and Fanny form a smutty book club, and do they manage to convince anyone else to join? Basically, I’d just love to see anything playing in the sandbox that is this show!

Dimension 20: A Crown of Candy (Campaign)
Requested Characters - Any

D&D actual play shows and podcasts have been one of the bright spots for me this year and have really given me something to look forward to on a regular basis. A Crown of Candy sounded very much like my jam from the get go and I was right. The world building is absolutely fascinating and something I’d love to see more about. In particular, Brennan talking about heresies, doctrine and the like felt like a targeted attack on me. I am a medievalist after all! So if you felt like exploring the religion of the world, the ideas about rot which were mentioned, the role of the Sugar Plum Fairy, and the like, that would be cool. I would also be interested in a more character driven piece! One of the things I really liked about this campaign was how a good chunk of the characters and related and how that impacted the group dynamic. A couple of potential jumping off points: What if the game had gone full Game of Thrones? There’s the obvious moment in the finale this could spin off from, but also what if something like that happened earlier? In this instance, I would totally be down for some dark fic and I think the juxtaposition between that and the candyland aesthetic could be super interesting. In a similar vein, what if some of the major dice rolls had gone a different way? What would the world look like if there was more or less magic? I would also be totally interested in some kind of slice-of-life post finale fic. How does Ruby’s relationship with Saccharina grow and change? How does Liam and Primsy’s relationship develop? What does Annabelle do after? Because Annabelle is just, straight up, the coolest. The world and characters D20 created are so fun and I’d love to see what you can do playing in that sandbox!

Happy Yuletide-ing!
