I sooo was. That's probably the height of my fannish life, right now. I had been so depressed and then all these people just gave me this amazing, beautiful present. I actually cried for like an hour. At work. I seriously made one of my coworkers uncomfortable as we discussed rebate structures while I not-so-silently sobbed. :P

The people! I feel so much community in this fandom and I have met so many awesome people through podfic. And I love how having a podficcers voice in my ear can make me feel so close to them. I like knowing that other people feel that way about my voice too.

So, I'm kind of afraid to do this, since I have a lot of people that follow me, that I don't really know? I'm mostly on Twitter these days and don't feel close to my flist/circle at all. So instead, I'll just answer these questions for you. :)
1. Tell you why I friended you. If I remember.
It was definitely over podfic, possibly through
2. Associate you with something.
Podfic!
3. Tell you something I like about you.
You're pretty awesome at responding to people on twitter. When people put something out there, you let them know that you're reading, even if there isn't really anything to say. That's pretty awesome. :)
4. Tell you a memory I have of you.
That time twitter was down and we tried emailing each other instead, but kind of failed at it, since we didn't know what to say when we had more than 140 characters. :P
5. Associate you with a character/pairing.
Narnia! Which isn't really a pairing, but I've had your National Service podfics in my queue just waiting for me to be in a Narnia mood (I love those stories, but I'm such a moody listener that I can't just dive into a fandom unless I'm in the mood for it. /o\)
6. Ask something I've always wanted to know about you.
How did you get into podfic?
7. Tell you my favourite userpic of yours.
Looking through yours, I think I like this one best:

Date: 2012-09-09 05:30 pm (UTC)Well, I used to listen to lots of audiotapes when I was younger because I have difficulty getting to sleep. And then, when I found my way into bandom, I found podfic and fell in love. I started just listening to things when I couldn't get to sleep, but I now listen when I'm doing things like tidying and washing up and ironing as well. Makes things go by so much faster and more enjoyably! For a little while last autumn I'd been thinking that this was something I could do. Then the Snowflake challenge happened (which I lurked around) and I saw someone saying it would be awesome if someone recorded some of their work. And so I did. I had planned to record one of their drabbles. I ended up doing three. I was hooked pretty much instantly.

Date: 2012-09-09 05:32 pm (UTC)6. What made you think "I could do this" about podfic?
I guess it wasn't much of a learning curve for me, editing and even just reading aloud. I used to make podcasts with my friends, it didn't change much for podfic, except taking more care with editing. So when I made my first one, and discovered that it was actually really easy, it encouraged me so much, and made me think, to use your words, I could do this (all the time!)

5. Nothing? :(
6. Oh, this is an interesting one. The story of how I got involved in fandom has at least three parts (which culminates in a phenomenal show of density on my part). Do you want to hear it? I’m not really doing much in fandom at the moment, besides a small amount of technical stuff for people who have better stuff to do with their time. I want to get more involved, but it first means clearing backlogs of other stuff that needs doing. :P
7. Good point. :P I should probably fix this at some point.
8. Maybe when I’ve posted something in my journal to kick things off.

Date: 2012-09-11 03:32 am (UTC)Ahhhhhhhhhh can I get back to you about the religious/philosophical idea? Off the top of my head I'd say I love the Buddhist idea of rebirth even though it contradicts my own beliefs about the soul, because it's just such a FASCINATING concept. And I love love love virtue ethics, if that counts as a philosophical idea, because it works on the principle that you should tell people what a good person IS and not what a good person DOES. Kind of. A little bit. It's more complicated than that but it's just really really cool, and I really like how it's set up.
you really *think* about things
oh god do I. I overthink everything, but I'm glad it's at least mildly endearing :D

Date: 2012-09-09 06:44 pm (UTC)I had a free spot my senior year of college and decided to fill it with a teaching internship class because "what the hell, I can teach a biology lab" and I knew the professor, so sure. And then realized that I LOVED what I was doing. (Which was great because I was graduating and didn't want to work in a lab and didn't want to pursue medical or veterinary school like I'd originally planned and D: what was I going to do with my life?)
I sat down and took a hard look and realized I'd been tutoring basically my whole life and teaching friends and family members stuff and maybe I should look into that. So I did. :)

Date: 2012-09-11 04:34 pm (UTC)I fell into doctor who because Neil Gaiman was watching it with his daughter Maddy and blogging his reactions on his journal. I was super curious because one of my coolest teachers had made an offhand ref to it one day too.
So put those together and over summer of 2006 I got my first laptop and figured out how torrents worked and the first thing I acquired was 'Rose'! It was the rip from the first tv broadcast so it even had the audio leakover from what was showing on another BBC channel that night. <3
I was utterly enraptured and downloaded all of S1 and S2 and needed MORE. Ohh man I was watching in a void and Doomsday WRECKED ME.
I started watching classic Who and looking around on LJ which lead to me also listening to the Big Finish audio adventures and reading tonnnns of fic.
I also started burning DVDs and sending them to all my friends because THEY ALL HAD TO WATCH THIS, THIS WAS AMAZING OH MY GOD.
