Day 5
Stretch yourself a little and try something new. Go play in a new fandom or with a new pairing. Try working in a new medium. Or consume different fanworks. Give that new fandom a go. Listen to a podfic or watch some vids if you haven’t before. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it.
So. I really wasn't sure what to do with this. My attitude to the majority of fandom is "sure, I'll give it a go!" I have written fic, I've podficced, I've arted (both digitally and not), I'm multifannish. So I asked twitter for help! This was clearly a bad idea. My feed being the wonderful people they are though came up with some fab suggestions. In fact, I still would like to try and do some kind of podfic commentary which was suggested. I just haven't had any recording time to do so! I ended up looking at hockey fandom.
bessyboo sent me some links to some primers (here and here) and then read a fic she recced me. I actually really enjoyed reading it! And there's podfic of it too which I'm looking forward to listening to. I don't think it's a fandom I'm going to be in properly, but more something I'll read every now and again.
Day 6
In your own space, pimp three comms or challenges and explain why you love them. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.
remopodmo I am admittedly a bit biased about this in that I helped run the last remopodmo (record more podfic month!) but well. I think it's a fantastic thing. Not only does it help encourage you to podfic, a little everyday or whatever you can manage, but I also love the sense of togetherness it creates and the feeling of podfic fandom all coming together and encouraging each other. And of course, at the end, fab podfic comes out of it!
imadeathing Fannish crafting challenge! I have always wanted to try and make something fannish. I knit and I've always wanted to closet cosplay and this was the perfect little push I needed to get started on it. I am also really looking forward to seeing what everyone creates! I love seeing fannish crafts but don't really know where to look for them.
polybigbang I love polyamory in fic an awful lot and this is a whole big bang for it!
podfic_tips This community was invaluable to me when I first started podficcing and to be honest, it still is so helpful. There's such a wealth of knowledge in the podficcing community and this is the place to get it.
fancake Absolutely fantastic reccing community. Recs by theme and it's just really good!
Day 7
In your own space, share something non-fannish about yourself. A passion or a hobby or a talent, something that people might not know about you. We are more than just our fandoms. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.
I wasn't really sure what to do for this. I don't really have many hobbies which aren't fannish. Or they have become fannish in some way? And, well, I'm just not that passionate about many things. So I decided to think about what things I am truly passionate about. The stuff my family can't get me to shut up about. And that led me to one rather obvious subject: history. Now, if you know me, this probably isn't all that surprising but hey well, I'm passionate about it and it's not fannish so. I love history a ridiculous amount. I am currently in my first year of studying history at university and I love it a ridiculous amount. I find it really difficult, but the studying history part I always enjoy. Even when I feel awful, history still makes me feel better.
We discussed once in a seminar why we studied history and why we liked it. The majority of the group said they liked seeing how things had changed, how people were different then. I like looking at how, in some ways, people are fundamentally the same. However far we come technologically, there are still aspects of humanity which remain there. I love religious history. I love political history. I love medieval and early modern history. I am not so fond of modern history because I have trouble distancing myself from it.
Small anecdote! I come from the area where Oliver Cromwell grew up. As such we have a road called Cromwell Place. They've built a Monarch Road off it. This is endlessly amusing to me.
And I can't really think of much else to add to this. Just that I love history an awful awful lot.
