Top five meme. Ask me for my top five in any category, and I'll try to figure out answers. It might take me a bit, or might go quickly, depending on how detailed my answer is and how much I have to think about it.

Date: 2013-08-21 03:09 pm (UTC)The death of Thomas Becket.
The assassination of Julius Caesar
Joan of Arc convincing people to listen to her and take her to the Dauphin (seriously want to know how she managed that!)
The Reign of Terror during the French Revolution (1793-4)
And it's not so much an event but the medical advancement made by the Islamic world by writers such as Ibn Sina during the European "Dark Ages"
And as an added bonus! Some of my fave people from history from another meme I answered once! Margaret Beaufort, Elizabeth Woodville, Mary Seacole, Isabella of Castille, Catherine de Medici, Joan of Arc, Margaret of Anjou. There are many many more but those are the ones I thought of off the top of my head.

Date: 2013-08-22 09:39 am (UTC)I want to learn more about history elsewhere but I haven't had the chance yet.
SAAAAAAAME. My father has a couple world history books at home which are apparently fairly good about not being too Eurocentric (despite being written by Brits, because of course) which I'm hoping to get a chance to read when I visit home in September.
Ooooh I don't even know most of the people on your list! Yay, I see research about awesome people in my future! :D

Date: 2013-08-22 12:04 pm (UTC)When uni starts up again, I'm taking a module on Europe and the Islamic World and I am SO EXCITED. We looked at it briefly in one of my modules this year and it was my favourite part. I can't wait to look at it more in depth.
Seriously, if you ever want to hit me up to discuss any of those people or history in general. I love history so much. Although my knowledge is spotty in places for obvious reasons!
Also, my choices were partly influenced by what I could refer to as a specific "event" within history. Like, the how the French dealt with the problems of colonisation and medicine in comparison to the British. And how the lack of knowledge about what actually caused scurvy was a good thing in the long run because it led to improvements in all sorts of areas, not just diet. And the Russian attitude to westernisation and modernisation and how sometimes those are the same thing and sometimes they're not.
And I will stop rambling now!
